Among the accounts, one accuser claims that she was raped at Brand’s Los Angeles residence. Another alleged that she was abused by Brand during a three-month relationship in Britain when she was just 16 years old. Note that 16 is the legal age of consent in the UK.
Two other women, including one who collaborated with Brand in Los Angeles, also came forward with accusations of sexual assault.
Brand’s Rise to Fame
Russell Brand’s ascent to fame began as a stand-up comedian in the early 2000s, followed by stints as a radio personality and television presenter, most notably for MTV in the United Kingdom and a British spinoff of “Big Brother.” His acting career reached a peak with his role as Aldous Snow in the 2008 comedy film “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”
Brand’s personal life made headlines when he was married to pop sensation Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012. He later tied the knot with author Laura Brand, formerly Laura Gallacher, in 2017.
In his 2007 memoir, “My Booky Wook,” Brand candidly shared his struggles with sex addiction, a battle he waged while in recovery from alcohol and heroin addiction. Both during stand-up and in his book, he often humorously addressed his romantic escapades.
