In Sanders’ own words:

“People who have health care under Medicare for all will have no premiums, no deductibles and copayments and no out of pockets. Yes, they will pay more in taxes and less in health care for what they get.”

Sanders and other Democrats may not see this as problematic; however, there are many people in this country who are not eager to lose more money to taxes.

Raising Taxes to Fund Government Services

There are some very critical details to keep in mind here. Firstly, a tax increase for the middle class is not mutually exclusive to healthcare. In addition to Medicare-for-All, Democrats also want free college, reparations, and absolution from student loan debt. At this time, progressive candidates are marketing these services as free, when in reality, they are anything but.

Each of the aforementioned government services will require payment one way or another. Numerous Americans are aware that this payment will come from the U.S. taxpayer. This is especially problematic on an individual level where many workers will be worse off from losing more money to taxes. However, Democrats believe that this trade-off will be worth it and improve the quality of life for Americans.
