“The Beaver Moon marks both preparation and transition,” says the Almanac. “It’s nature’s reminder that winter is near.”
From New Moon Darkness to SuperMoon Brilliance
The new moon on October 21 will briefly plunge the sky into darkness — ideal for meteor watching — before giving way to the rising Beaver SuperMoon on November 5 at 8:19 a.m. ET.
Unlike a new moon, when the moon’s dark side faces Earth, a supermoon reflects the full brilliance of the sun. Expect to see it low on the horizon, glowing golden-orange before it rises higher in the night sky.
As the moon brightens the November night, it symbolizes the seasonal shift — from the warmth of autumn to the chill of approaching winter.
