“This might be one of the longer [heat waves] this year,” said Bryan Lewis, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
The LA Times notes that Southern California has already recorded record-breaking January firestorms, and the season still has months to go.
The fire risk across California is expected to remain elevated through next week, with only a slight drop in temperatures expected by the weekend.
