Snapchat users are trying to delete their accounts after the platform's My AI feature may have malfunctioned.

Google search data from NoDepositDaily.com recently revealed that online searches for "delete Snapchat" increased by a staggering 1,019 percent worldwide in the last two weeks.

The exodus is due to Snapchat users being upset after the platform suffered a malfunction with its My AI chatbot on August 15.

My AI gets weird

In mid-August My AI began to share its own eerie images.

In the story, the photo showed what appeared like a wall that could be seen for a few seconds.

Snapchat users also reported that during that time, the new feature refused to respond to messages and chats.

This made the situation seem even more troubling. And many users wondered if the platform had been hacked or if AI had come to life on its own.

Chatbot history at Snapchat

Snapchat introduced the chatbot which was powered by the latest version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

According to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, it’s a bet that AI chatbots will increasingly become a part of everyday life for more people. And the integrated technology will be “an awesome creative tool.” 

Meanwhile, Microsoft and Google integrated generative AI into their search engines.

The My AI chatbot was developed to help users with a variety of tasks. Including “answering queries, making recommendations, creating material, and assisting with language translation.” 

Snapchat launched the feature for the app’s more than 3 million Snapchat+ paid subscribers in February.

It released its AI chatbot to all of Snapchat’s 750 million monthly users for free, a move that comes less than two months after the OpenAI-powered bot was made available to Snapchat+.

The social media platform gave directions on how to add it to group chats. The functions let people change the look and name of their bot with a custom Bitmoji avatar. 

My AI has the ability to recommend AR filters to use in Snapchat’s camera or places to visit from the app’s map tab. And enables users to visually message and receive generated responses from the chatbot.
