Chief of Corrections Jay Mallett stated that the jail was not built to hold violent offenders. “It’s a minimum custody facility. These were high-security inmates. That’s a mismatch.”

Anyone with information about the escapees’ whereabouts is urged to call the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1111. Please do not approach them. All the escapees are considered armed and dangerous.
