Smoke curled into the Gulf sky Tuesday after the US consulate in Dubai struck by a drone ignited a brief but alarming blaze near the diplomatic compound, authorities said.

Fire Quickly Contained, No Injuries Reported

In a statement posted online, Dubai’s government media office said a fire caused by a “drone-related incident” near the U.S. Consulate had been swiftly brought under control.

“Dubai authorities have confirmed that a fire resulting from a drone-related incident near the US Consulate has been successfully contained,” the statement read.

Emergency teams responded immediately, officials said, and no injuries were reported. About 45 minutes later, the media office confirmed the fire had been “fully extinguished,” again emphasizing that no one was hurt.

“Dubai authorities reaffirm their commitment to ensuring everyone’s safety and security,” the statement added.

Drone Hit Consulate Parking Lot, Officials Say

A U.S. official and Dubai’s media office told the Wall Street Journal that a drone struck the parking lot of the consulate compound. Video circulating on social media showed thick black smoke rising near the diplomatic site, underscoring the tension gripping the region.

Iran’s state broadcaster, IRIB, reported that an Iranian drone had targeted the consulate, according to the New York Times. The claim has not been independently confirmed by U.S. or Emirati officials.

The incident comes just a day after two drones struck the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia, triggering a limited fire and minor structural damage, according to Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry. In response, the embassy urged Americans in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dhahran to shelter in place.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait announced Tuesday it would remain closed “until further notice.”

The latest strike adds another flashpoint to an already volatile landscape, where diplomatic outposts have become symbols on a battlefield stretching far beyond their gates.
