McConnell’s speech blaming Pres. Trump for the U.S. Capitol insurrections comes after House Democrats impeached the 45th president for the second time. Over the next several weeks, the Senate will be preparing for another impeachment trial. This time, wether to convict Pres. Trump for “incitement of insurrection.”
The Senate Republican leader’s speech is a signal that he cutting his ties with the 45th president. It has been reported that McConnell privately indicated that it is easier to remove Pres. Trump and Trumpism from the GOP by impeaching him.
