Some Republicans are sticking with President Donald Trump, claiming the election is not yet over just because media outlets in the United States have projected victory for Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump has refused to concede the election to Biden on Saturday, arguing that the contest is “far from over.” The chief executive issued a statement minutes after Biden was projected the winner in Pennsylvania.

“Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor,” Trump said in a three-paragraph statement issued by his campaign.

The Trump campaign, he said, will start prosecuting their case in court.

“The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election,” he said. “It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters.”

Louisiana US Representative Steve Scalise has backed Trump, saying there are still “serious legal challenges that have been made, and until that process is resolved, the election is not final.”

Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley also echoed the chief executive’s claims, saying “the media do not get to determine who the president is.” He added, “When all lawful votes have been counted, recounts finished, and allegations of fraud addressed, we will know who the winner is.”

On the other hand, Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney, who has sparred with Trump throughout his incumbency, congratulated Biden.

President Trump and his campaign have already maintained that they will push back and seek legal action; the campaign and Republicans across the nation also allege to have documented evidence of voter fraud, illegal votes, and more.
