A groundbreaking research study conducted by the University of Haifa and the Max Stern Yezreel Valley College in Israel has shed light on the connection between problematic pornography watching and serious health conditions.
According to the research published in Body Image men who consumed pornography excessively were more likely to develop eating disorders and sexual dysfunction.
The study, recently published in Body Image, involved 705 men ranging in age from 18 to 68, with an average age of 32. Among the participants, approximately 68 percent identified as heterosexual, while the remaining identified as sexual minorities.
The researchers gathered information about the participants’ pornography consumption habits, engagement in eating disorder behaviors, perceived realism of pornography, as well as their levels of anxiety and depression.
The study also examined body comparison and dissatisfaction with physique and how it relates to pornography consumption.
Participants were evaluated using the Problematic Pornography Consumption Scale (PPCS), which included statements like “I feel that porn is an important part of my life” and “I become stressed when something prevents me from watching porn.”
