On Friday first son, Hunter Biden was deposed under oath in his Arkansas child support case. The deposition took place as part of Hunter's attempt to reduce his monthly child support payments.

Hunter arrived at the deposition in a five-car motorcade accompanied by members of the Secret Service.

Hunter is trying to back out of the 2020 settlement agreement with Lunden Roberts for his 4-year-old daughter, Navy Joan Roberts.

The deposition lasted from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. local time. And marked the first time Hunter has been deposed in this case. 

Child support case spotlights finances

Roberts' attorneys intended to question him about his earnings from foreign business deals. One of the key points of contention in the case has been Hunter's refusal to provide proof of his finances. 

Roberts' legal team, accusing Hunter of living a lavish lifestyle, has requested the court to hold him in contempt for allegedly withholding this information. 

In an earlier 12-page discovery brief, Roberts' lawyer, Clinton Lancaster, accuses Hunter Biden of failing to comply with court-imposed deadlines and not providing financial disclosure information. And requests the judge hold him in contempt and jail him until he complies.

Lancaster highlighted the contradiction between Hunter claiming financial destitution while living in a luxury property in Malibu, enjoying Secret Service protection, and spending time abroad.

Roberts' legal team has also sought to depose Garrett Ziegler, a former Trump White House aide and founder of nonprofit Marco Polo, who conducted an analysis of the contents of Hunter's controversial laptop.

 Despite Hunter's attempt to block Ziegler's deposition, the court ruled in favor of proceeding with it.

During a previous court hearing, Judge Holly Meyer was critical of the heavy redaction of documents related to Hunter's finances. And she claimed that the redaction privilege was being abused. 

Meyer ordered Hunter's legal team to refile some of the financial documents, emphasizing the need for transparency.

Hunter's attorney, Abbe Lowell, informed the court that his client had already paid $750,000 in child support since acknowledging Navy Joan as his daughter. 

Hunter and Roberts are scheduled to appear in court on July 10 for oral arguments regarding her motion to sanction Hunter, have him jailed, and compel him to pay $20,000 in legal fees. 

Roberts also seeks to change her child's last name to Biden, as she believes it would benefit Navy Joan to carry a family name associated with education, success, financial acuity, and political power. Hunter has filed paperwork to block the name change.

President Joe Biden does not acknowledge Navy Joan as a member of the Biden family. And often talks about his “six grandchildren” ignoring the fact that he has seven.

Hunter faces other legal challenges

The child support case is just one aspect of the myriad of legal challenges facing Hunter Biden.

 He is also under investigation by the Delaware US Attorney for tax fraud and falsifying a federal gun purchase form. 

Both Hunter and President Biden are subjects of a probe by the House Oversight Committee regarding allegations of accepting $10 million in bribes from a Burisma executive, a Ukrainian gas company.

As the legal proceedings continue, Hunter's former business partner, Devon Archer, is reportedly in talks to testify before the committee, shedding light on the first family's business dealings in Russia and Ukraine.

There has also been a public release of a trove of documents and images from Hunter's controversial laptop. The laptop has emails relating to his foreign business deals with Burisma and Chinese Communist Party entities. 

The photos put a spotlight on his struggles with addiction. And feature explicit images. Hunter's personal and legal troubles continue to draw attention and scrutiny, creating a complex backdrop for the ongoing child support case.
