plethora of instances to support this. Extending unemployment benefits does a disservice to everyone involved. First, it hurts the people whose paychecks will be decreased as an offshoot of higher taxes. Additionally, it provides encouragement to lazy people. It sends the message that they don’t need to work because the government will send them a check.

The people may never know why Putnam chose to vote for an extension of unemployment benefits, but the matter is quite worthy of discussion. Anyone who truly claims to be a Republican is expected to have a certain set of values. Some of the most basic right wing policies are low government, strong military, low taxes, etc. Other policies may leave room for flexibility, but taxation does not fall into this category. An increase in taxes will not only embolden the unemployed, but it will also increase the power of the government. Where is the limit? Is there no end to how much the government will be allowed to repeatedly raise taxes on the American people? Furthermore, should Floridians really elect a Governor who has absolutely no problem with taking money from their paychecks in order to fund lazy, unmotivated people?
