When she vanished, she was attempting to be the first person to fly around the world at the equator, setting a record for the furthest-distance flight.
She also founded and served as president of the Ninety-Nines. The first organization for female pilots.
She was also an author, a lecturer, and an early advocate for women’s rights.
Deep Sea Vision
Deep Sea Vision used the Kongsberg Discovery HUGIN 6000, a state-of-the-art drone which “captured a fuzzy sonar image of an object the size and shape of an airplane resting some 5,000 meters underwater within 100 miles of Howland Island.”
Tony Romeo, Deep Sea Vision’s CEO remains “optimistic” that the discovery is Earhart’s pland.
“This is maybe the most exciting thing I’ll ever do in my life,” Romeo reported. “I feel like a 10-year-old going on a treasure hunt.”
More evidence is needed to prove this is Earhart’s plane. Deep Sea discovered the image in the drone’s data about 90 days into the trip. And it was too late to turn back to investigate further.
