Is there an AI Armageddon on the horizon? Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei admits the possibility, as his company continues its’ massive investment in AI.
In a recent revelation, Dario Amodei, the CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, a San Francisco-based startup, sounded the alarm by suggesting that there is a ’10 to 25 percent’ chance that artificial intelligence (AI) could pose a catastrophic threat to humanity.
Similar warnings have been creating concern within the tech industry and beyond for years.
With more than $500 million already invested in Anthropic, and a further allocation expected over time, the company seems poised to play a pivotal role in the unfolding AI revolution.
This massive investment comes hot on the heels of Amazon’s $4 billion contribution to Anthropic, indicating the intense competition among tech giants, including Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, to dominate the AI landscape, often referred to as the second technological revolution.
Amodei’s expertise in AI is well-established, having previously served as the vice president of research at OpenAI, before founding Anthropic. In less than three years, his startup has skyrocketed to a staggering valuation of over $5 billion.
