Presently, the attorneys for Planned Parenthood tried to argue that there was a criminal purpose behind the recording and posting of this footage, arguing that it was “a scheme to destroy Planned Parenthood, ” but this argument was rejected by the court. Despite this, Planned Parenthood is reportedly “thrilled” with the decision. Of the $2 million verdict, $870,000 was for punitive damages, $90,000 was for statutory violations, and $100,000 was for the violation of the Federal Wiretap Act.
The case is Planned Parenthood Federation et al. v. Center for Medical Progress et al., case number 20-16068, in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
