In July, 2022, the U.S. House Committee assigned to investigate the January 6 riots issued a subpoena for Bannon to testify and to return confidential documents. Bannon refused to comply with the subpoena, by not testifying and not returning the requested documents. The Judge assigned to Bannon’s case has expressed the severity of Bannon refusing to cooperate; calling the refusal a “quite serious offense”.

Bannon has participated in the denial of election results and active insurrection from the start of Donald Trump’s presidency. He is also the first of the Trump ally’s to actually be convicted of crimes resulting from insurrection attempt. He will not be the last to face charges, nor will he likely be the last to actually face a conviction.
