On Wednesday, Bernie Sanders spoke out and shared his thoughts about the Democratic Party, reports The Hill.
Sanders on the Democratic Party
The failed, former Presidential candidate had some very harsh words for the history of the Democratic Party. His statements read as follows:
“The business model, if you like, of the Democratic Party for the last 15 years or so [was] a failure. Now, what happened — people sometimes don’t see that because of the charismatic individual named Barack Obama who won the presidency in 2008 and 2012. He was obviously an extraordinary candidate, brilliant man. But behind that reality, over the last 10 years, Democrats have lost about 1,000 seats in state legislatures all across this country.”
Criticism of the Democratic Party
Bernie Sanders is not the first critic of the Democratic Party, even by far. Many Americans have slammed the politics, leaders, and policies of the leftist party. However, the reasons and roots of the Democratic Party’s condemnation greatly vary.
A prime example is the 2016 Presidential election. After President Trump’s victory, a percentage of left-leaning Americans blamed the Democratic Party, but for considerably different reasons. Some leftists faulted the DNC leaders, claiming that they rigged the DNC primaries in Hillary Clinton’s favor. People who share this belief furthermore stated that had Sanders won the nomination, Trump may not have won the election. However, at this point, the validity of this statement is impossible to prove.
Republicans and conservatives are also well-known critics of the Democratic Party. The former two groups have slammed their political counterparts for identity politics, sexism, racism, and a series of other offenses. Nevertheless, the Democrats have strongly controverted the aforementioned claims, stating that Republicans are accusing Democrats of what they themselves are guilty of.
As evidenced by Sanders, the condemnation of the Democratic Party remains ongoing. Leftist leaders have even slammed Hillary Clinton for publicly opining about the 2016 Presidential election. According to certain Democrats, her controversial statements are not helping their party whatsoever. This appears to be one of the few points where Republicans and Democrats remain in agreement.
The Democratic Party has not issued a public response to Bernie Sanders’ statements.
