Other aides to the president have also put out similar responses to polls that don’t look good for Biden. With the general election still being one year away, Biden’s allies believe it’s too early to write off the president’s chances.
Aside from the timing factor, the president’s team continues pointing to various Democrats’ histories of prevailing in elections, despite previously contending with not-so-great polls.
Ammunition for Biden’s in-party critics
While the president’s team is painting a rosy image and assuring there’s nothing to worry about, not all Democrats share this outlook.
Rep. Dean Phillips, for instance, has continually pointed to polls that show Biden either losing to Trump or coming close to losing to Trump. As Phillips campaigns for the Democratic nomination, he’s also making the case that America risks getting stuck with a second term of Trump if Biden proceeds to the general election.
The weeks and months ahead will hence prove critical for both the president and his political allies.
