During the 2024 primaries, Joe Biden didn’t debate his opponents and neither did Donald Trump. While both contenders are now the de facto nominees of their parties, they each turned down multiple requests to debate others who were vying for the nomination.

To many Americans, refusing to debate is unacceptable. Some even feel that it should be disqualifying. Folks with this viewpoint often posit that any candidate seeking votes to win an elected office position should get on a debate stage for Americans to watch.

Interestingly enough, the general presidential race is taking a very different turn than the primaries when it comes to debating. This week, Biden and Trump each agreed to face off against one another on a debate stage … twice.

What to know about the upcoming Biden vs. Trump debates

On Thursday, June 27 and Tuesday, September 10, the two presidential candidates will face one another. CNN is hosting the debate next month, while ABC News is hosting the second one later this fall.
