A Black Lives Matter supporter and winner of season 20 of “Worst Cooks In America,” Ariel Robinson, and her husband Jerry Austin have been charged with homicide in the death of their white, adopted daughter Victoria Rose Smith.
The Food Network star and her husband were arrested on January 19 in relation to the homicide, People reported.
“Police officers handle all kinds of cases, and these kind of cases can be the hardest for them to do,” Justin Lee Campbell, a Simpsonville police spokesman, said to PEOPLE. “It is a sad day. You bring charges and maybe convictions, but at the end of the day the life of a child was taken. For anyone who knew the victim or was related to the victim, they are in our thoughts and prayers.”
The Greenville County senior deputy coroner Kent Dill said that the child died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries.
Smith had spent most of her short life in foster homes until being recently adopted by the Food Network star and her husband, WYFF-TV reported.
“When she entered a room, all eyes were on her, because she demanded it and she was a cutie,” Tiffany Huggins, who was her foster mother for 10 months, said.
