Britain Implements New Guidelines for American XL Bully Dogs

These regulations entail registering American XL bully dogs with the government. Likewise, owners of these animals will have to ensure they remain on a leash and muzzled while in public.

Sunak’s confirmation of the forthcoming XL bully ban emerged after a man in Staffordshire, England lost his life to a mauling from one of these dogs. To make matters even worse, American XL bullies were responsible for 60% of 2022’s lethal dog attacks in the UK.

Contentious viewpoints among animal rights groups, other officials

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and other UK animal charities oppose the upcoming ban on these animals.

However, legal scholar Dr. Lawrence Newport cautioned that in Britain, XL bullies bear responsibility for almost half of the attacks against other dogs and humans. Newport furthermore stated these animals perpetrated more than 70% of all UK dog deaths as of 2021.

On social media platforms such as “X,” UK citizens and others around the world have begun weighing in on the ban. Some congratulated Britain for taking this step; whereas others believe painting XL bullies with a broad brush is unfair.
