Following the recently signed executive order, various departments and agencies in California will provide rules for the use of generative AI by January 2024. Newsom likewise aims for different California agencies to work with academic bodies that specialize in researching AI.

Amid the 2024 presidential election, there have been discussions around the country about the potential impacts of AI. Already, presidential candidates are now using AI-generated photographs and videos to campaign and take shots at their opponents.

On an international scale, questions have been raised about other countries potentially using AI to interfere in the 2024 elections.

At some point, a review of generative AI could very well materialize at the federal level. In the next several years, Congress may also find itself under pressure to pass some firm rules and guidelines regarding the use of AI.
