Chocolate industry fails to fulfill pledge to stop dangerous child labor at cocoa farms in West Africa

Chocolate giant Mars Wrigley commits $1 billion to address child labor in the cocoa supply chain

In response to the report, Mars Wrigley, the world’s leading chocolate manufacturer, said “child has no place in the cocoa supply chain.” It is calling for a “robust private-public collaboration” to tackle the root causes of child labor in the cocoa-growing communities in West Africa.

The company also committed $1 billion as part of is “Cocoa for Generations strategy to help fix a broken supply chain” and expressed its support for appropriate due diligence legislation to address the problem. 

“The problem of child labor is bigger than any one entity, and the solution must be grounded in an unwavering commitment to action and collaboration between farmers, communities, civil society, business, and government,” according to Mars Wrigley.
