Whenever the report is released, it is worth noting that a Congressional investigation of this kind will not lead to any direct legal enforcement or penalties. However, further probes by the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, and antitrust regulators could lead to charges if anything of substance has been found.
It has been reported that the FTC is currently looking into Amazon and Facebook while the DOJ has its own investigation on Google. Apple has largely remained free from investigations by regulatory bodies within the United States. It turns out that the European Commission has launched two probes into Apple’s app store and their Apple Pay service. It remains to be seen whether Apple will be required to pay any fines as a result of the investigation.
