Officials from the Department of Energy have determined with “low confidence” that the Covid pandemic may have originated from a laboratory leak. But the FBI thinks it is more likely.

This theory has been debated for three years and remains a possibility along with the natural occurrence theory. Officials cannot issue a definitive cause for the virus’s origin, without additional information from China.

COVID-19 origin report

The report was drafted after considering new intelligence and consulting with non-government experts. It remains unclear if the less than five-page report will be made public.

Despite struggling to issue a definitive cause for the virus’s origin, much of the intelligence community has concluded that the virus was not deliberately created as a biological weapon in 2021. The intelligence memo leaves open the possibility that it was created by the Wuhan research lab and accidentally leaked.
