Crypto-centric browser form Brave said that it had passed the 50 million monthly active users milestone in January 2022. The figure doubled on a year-over-year basis for the 5th consecutive year. The average daily active users stood around 15.5 million during December 2021.

Brave is considered an alternative to Google Chrome since the web browser is focused on privacy-preserving. The private search engine which was launched last year had 2.3 billion annualized queries and the firm launched several other products in 2021 including Brave Wallet and the private video call offering Brave Talk.

However, the browser’s market share is still relatively smaller than its competitors. For instance, Firefox has around 211 million monthly active users, while Google has billions of daily users.

“We’ve spent a successful year expanding our product range and our ecosystem, engaging with partners who share our vision for a Web free from Big Tech’s shackles,” said Brave CEO and co-founder Brendan Eich in the announcement post.
