Pokuaa entered the room to attend to the woman and was shot and killed. Flowers looked inside the room upon hearing gunfire, and she was also killed.

After reloading his gun Hernandez stepped out of the room where he was wounded in the leg by Sgt. Rangel. And taken into custody by police.

Criminal justice system failure

In a press conference Monday Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said, ‘In my opinion, this is a failure of our criminal justice system. A violent individual such as this should not have been on an ankle monitor and should have remained in custody.’

Garcia added that the woman Hernandez pistol-whipped was treated for her injuries and that a newborn child who was in the room was unharmed.

Pokuua was a native of Ghana. And the daughter of a retired army colonel living in Accra.

Flowers has been described as a nurse and a hero in her line of work, a single mother to 4, and Grammie to 5 wonderful grandbabies.’
