Amid his campaign, the Minnesota congressman now makes the case that Biden will ultimately lose to Trump, should the 2024 race come down to a rematch of the last White House election.

Phillips is pointing to various polls that show Biden either struggling to beat Trump or losing to Trump altogether in key states. Nevertheless, some Democrats have begun criticizing the congressman, stating he’s doing more harm than good and dividing the party.

During a sit-down with CNN over the weekend, Phillips likened Biden’s ongoing reelection run to the failed campaign of former President Jimmy Carter in 1980.

The Democratic presidential candidate pointed out Biden’s consistently low poll numbers, citing these as problematic for the party. Phillips also stressed that he’s not the cause of Biden’s issues, before stating the president is in a different position than he was in 2020.
