Phillips likewise stated it would be “delusional” for Democrats to look at Biden’s poll numbers and believe he’s in a position to win against Trump in 2024.
Interestingly enough, however, the Democratic congressman didn’t publicly share how he believes the president would fare against a different Republican nominee, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis or former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
Nevertheless, Phillips has repeatedly referenced Biden’s struggling poll numbers when faced with backlash from Democrats who believe he should be rallying around the incumbent president, rather than challenging him.
For what it’s worth, Phillips also consistently vows that if Biden ends up winning the party’s nomination anyway, he’ll happily campaign for the president yet again.

There are a lot of moving pieces that can impact Biden’s reelection run this time around. With Robert F. Kennedy Jr. now running for president as an Independent, certain Democrats feel nervous about this potentially costing Biden some votes.
