Thus far, it’s unclear what specific steps Musk’s legal team plans to take if the issue with spam bot ambiguity isn’t ironed out. However, there is a real likelihood that Musk himself declines to follow through with the deal.
Meanwhile, Twitter appears more than eager to sell to Musk. Shareholders of the social media site already advised the board of directors to support Musk’s acquisition.
What happens if Musk pulls out?
If the Tesla CEO decides not to go through with buying Twitter, this opens the door to all sorts of issues.
For starters, Musk could find himself facing a fee of possibly $1 billion. Furthermore, Twitter would certainly have room to pursue legal action against Musk.
However, given the issue with spam bots on the site, the door remains open for Musk to contest legal action on this grounds. The Tesla CEO could argue that Twitter wasn’t completely forthcoming throughout the current proceedings.
At the end of the day, time will establish whether or not Musk ends up buying the social media site.
