In late November 2022, former President Trump entered the 2024 election. He did this quite prematurely, despite even some Republicans asking him to hold off.
Nevertheless, it’s been speculated that Trump announced his candidacy so early for the purpose of dissuading other Republicans from seeking the 2024 GOP nomination. Though if this was Trump’s game plan, it does not appear to be panning out so well.
Later this week, Republican Nikki Haley, a former UN ambassador and former governor of South Carolina, is expected to announce she’s running for the White House.
Moreover, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also appear to be likely contenders who will declare their candidacies later in the year.
As for Trump’s 2024 presidential run, a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee believes Trump may have jumped the gun.
