In 2012, Facebook acquired Israeli start-up Face.com. The deal is reportedly under $100 million. The acquiring of Face.com came a few months after Facebook acquired Instagram.

The decision followed the major concern about privacy from Facebook users. Over the last few months, Frances Haugen a former employee of Meta turned whistleblower shared internal company documents to news outlets and regulators.

The findings show that Facebook is well aware of the harms that its social media platform causes. However, the company doesn’t intend to fix them, willingly or unwillingly.
