A Glimpse into the Future: Project Astra, LearnLM, and Veo
Project Astra takes Google Assistant to the next level. Imagine a virtual assistant that can “see” through your phone’s camera and respond accordingly, a project still under development.
Students can rejoice with LearnLM, an AI tool that aids research by finding answers to questions using educational sources. Veo, a “generative AI video model,” allows users to create 1080p videos on demand. Think of a cat in a nightgown and top hat leaping over the moon? Veo can make it happen, although it’s still in the testing phase.
Accessing Gemini
The Gemini 1.0 chatbot is available now. For a faster and more feature-rich experience, Gemini 1.5 Pro requires a Gemini Advanced subscription ($20 per month after a two-month trial), which includes 2TB of data storage and other Google One benefits. Businesses can explore more sophisticated AI levels through Google Workspace subscriptions.
Double-Checking the Data
As with any AI application, Gemini’s responses can be unreliable. The technology is young, and while it offers a valuable tool, users should always verify the information received. AI-generated misinformation, aptly termed “hallucinations,” is a growing concern.
