During the early morning of Wednesday, November 6, the 2024 presidential election was officially called for Donald Trump. Since then, it’s been reported by multiple outlets that he won each of America’s six swing states.
While there’s much talk about what a Trump administration will bring, the social impacts of his electoral victory have kicked into high gear. Already, reactions on the internet reveal that the former president’s return to power is exasperating already growing tensions between women and men.
Surging interest in the 4B movement
The 4B movement originates from South Korea and, in a nutshell, amounts to women abstaining from dating, marrying, sleeping with, or having children with men. South Korean women who embraced the 4B movement have done so as a means of protesting what they deem as misogyny and poor treatment from the men around them.
Though, since the outcome of the 2024 presidential race, American women are currently promoting the 4B movement on social media. Google Trends has also reflected growing amounts of searches pertaining to the 4B movement post Wednesday’s election results.
“Your body, our choice”
Following Trump’s return to power, young men on social media have come under fire for telling women “your body, our choice.” This is an inverse and intentional mockery of the pro-choice “my body, my choice” slogan.
