Rex Heuermann, a Long Island architect, has been implicated in the infamous Gilgo Beach serial killer case, as recent court documents have unveiled. Heuermann was apprehended on Thursday evening in Manhattan and arraigned the following day in Yaphank, New York.
Pleading not guilty to a total of six charges, Heuermann is facing three counts each of first-degree and second-degree murder, with the likelihood of a life sentence without parole if convicted.
The charges brought against him are in connection with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. These three women were among the victims discovered at Gilgo Beach in December 2010, a case that has cast a long shadow over Long Island for more than a decade.
Investigation Continues in the Wake of the Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Case
Following Heuermann’s arrest, investigators are now focused on a residential property in Massapequa Park, a mere 25-minute drive from the grim discovery site of 11 sets of human remains at Gilgo Beach in 2010 and 2011. Additionally, Heuermann’s Manhattan office has been cordoned off as part of the ongoing investigation.
