The holiday season has officially arrived. This time of the year is when people go Christmas shopping, cook yummy dishes for guests, put up their Christmas trees, and otherwise try to ensure things go smoothly without a hitch.

Amid the hustle and bustle, there's often a tendency for people to prioritize themselves last. This occurs with the best of intentions. During the holidays, many people care deeply about meeting other folks' needs. Nevertheless, a consistent lack of self-care can backfire and put you totally out of commission for quite some time.

Thankfully, there are some vital steps everyone can follow to avoid burnout as 2023 comes to an end.

Don't neglect sleep, exercise, or healthy foods

Getting the right amount of rest each night, being physically active, and consuming at least a moderately nutritious diet all go a long way toward individual health. Sleep allows the brain and body to repair, whereas exercise and healthy food consumption play pivotal roles in physical wellness and nourishment.

Without sleep, you're more prone to forgetfulness, irritation, and other problems that make functioning on a day-to-day basis that much harder. Likewise, when physical exercise and healthy foods are neglected, weight gain, energy depletion, and additional issues often arise.

This holiday season, it's important to remember that caring and looking out for yourself matters just as much as making sure everyone else is ok.

Avoid stress by taking personal days for yourself

The holidays have a reputation as a time when stress increases in many people's lives. Getting the proper presents, making travel arrangements, staying on top of work obligations, etc., all have a tendency to quickly pile up.

To avoid stress, taking the occasional personal day that consists of staying in, catching up on your favorite shows, or even going to bed earlier/sleeping in later can make a huge difference.

Some people may feel putting aside time for themselves isn't realistic right now. However, as stated regarding sleep, exercise, and nutrition, consistently neglecting personal time and being in go-go-go mode all the time will eventually catch up with you.
