Moreover, from August 2020 to last month, Ireland has shown a consistent increase in people purchasing both new and secondhand private vehicles. At the same time, the use of petrol this year is notably outpacing that of 2022.
Dublin’s traffic counting sites also continue to log weekly upticks showing more and more of these vehicles on the road.
On the other hand, bus trips taken by the Irish have gone up as well. Nonetheless, the data makes it clear that in the Emerald Isle, most people aren’t chomping at the bit to trade in private transportation for trains, trams, or buses.
A clear consensus
Despite the uptick in Ireland’s private car usage, it’s clear that public transportation will always be a necessity. Irish residents who live in large cities, such as Dublin, may feel more inclined to rely on buses or trams when they need to get places.
On the flip side, folks in Ireland who want to visit the countryside or otherwise have more autonomy over where they go are likely to stick with their private vehicles.
