Former national security adviser John Bolton has broken his silence following last week’s FBI raid at his Bethesda, Maryland, home and Washington, D.C., office.

The raid, part of an ongoing investigation into classified documents, has reignited Bolton’s feud with former President Donald Trump and drawn fresh scrutiny over his past handling of sensitive information.

FBI Raid Linked to Classified Documents

According to The Independent, FBI agents executed search warrants early Friday morning. Hours later, Trump claimed he learned of the raid only through television reports. “My house was raided also,” the former president said, referencing the 2022 Mar-a-Lago search. “So I know the feeling. It’s not a good feeling.”

Vice President JD Vance confirmed the raid is tied to an expanding investigation into classified materials. “This case is in the very early stages,” Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press. “There’s a broad concern about Ambassador Bolton.” He insisted the probe was “deliberate and driven by the national interest, not retribution.”

Bolton Slams Trump’s Ukraine Policy

In his first remarks since the raid, Bolton published a Washington Examiner op-ed criticizing Trump’s handling of the war in Ukraine. “Donald Trump’s Ukraine policy today is no more coherent than it was last Friday when his administration executed search warrants against my home and office,” he wrote.

Bolton blasted Trump’s recent meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling Trump’s efforts “confused” and “collapsing in haste.” He argued that the president’s attempts to broker a trilateral summit “may have left us further from peace and a just settlement for Ukraine than before.”

A Feud Years in the Making

Bolton’s relationship with Trump has been bitter since 2019, when Trump asked him to resign as national security adviser.

Bolton later published The Room Where It Happened, a memoir that the Trump administration attempted to block, alleging it contained classified material.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) under Attorney General Bill Barr sued Bolton, claiming he bypassed security reviews. While a judge ruled Bolton “likely jeopardized national security,” the book was ultimately published. The civil lawsuit and a parallel criminal probe were dropped under the Biden administration in 2021.

Trump, asked about the latest developments, downplayed Bolton’s criticism. “I wasn’t a fan,” the former president remarked, alluding to their long-standing clashes. Trump has previously accused Bolton of running a “retribution campaign” against him.

What’s Next for Bolton?

While past investigations into Bolton’s book have been closed, the latest FBI raid suggests renewed scrutiny. “If the media and the American people let this case unfold… they’re going to find out that what we’re doing is deliberate and lawful,” Vice President Vance said.

Bolton’s critics argue that his defiance of security protocols has put him in legal jeopardy. Supporters, however, claim the Trump administration abused classification reviews to suppress dissent. For now, Bolton remains one of Trump’s fiercest critics—and one of the few Republican figures openly challenging his foreign policy.
