NEW YORK (AP) — Actor Jonathan Majors, known for his role in “Creed III,” was arrested Saturday and charged with strangulation and battery of a woman, according to police.

New York City police said officers responded to a 911 call for an alleged domestic dispute at a Chelsea neighborhood apartment just after 11:00 a.m. A 30-year-old woman claimed she had been assaulted, and officers took Majors, 33, into custody without incident.

A criminal complaint filed in the incident alleges Jonathan Majors of assault and struck the woman in the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear. She also claimed Jonathan Majors assault escalated after he grabbed her hand and put his hands on her neck, resulting in swelling, bruising and significant pain to her neck and hand.

Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, denied the allegations, stating that evidence would prove the actor’s innocence. “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent … We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently,” Chaudhry said in a Sunday statement review by NewsPulseToday.
