The Secret Service said in a statement:
“As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel.”
After the shooting, Dawson was transported to a local hospital, though his current condition remains unknown. No other injuries were reported.
Indiana police sources had warned D.C. law enforcement about Dawson’s potential suicide risk. However, Indiana State Police Sgt. Ron Galaviz stated that the agency did not share information with D.C. authorities.
Dawson had a prior charge for misdemeanor possession of marijuana in 2018, but the charge was dismissed in 2019, according to online court records.
