The 2024 presidential election is getting closer with each passing day. With Biden looking like he’s going to pursue reelection, many Americans are curious about who Republicans will nominate to challenge the president this time around.

So far, the only Republican candidate to announce their candidacy is former President Trump. Though last time Trump went up against Biden in a general presidential election, he lost and Biden won. If Trump secures the nomination again in 2024, history could very well repeat itself.

Over a period of months, polls have shown that the one Republican with the greatest likelihood of keeping Trump from getting the nomination is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

If DeSantis does, in fact, decide to run for president, he’s unlikely to announce until later this year. In the meantime, there is now at least one Republican elected official on the record stating that Trump could lose the GOP nomination in 2024, while DeSantis could win.
