OPINION: Arresting Anti-Shutdown Protesters is Unconstitutional

Americans are loud and clear in our opposition against job-killing, economy-crushing shutdowns.

The numbers and data simply do not warrant stay-at-home order, shelter-in-place mandates, or any forms of lockdown. Coronavirus has an over 90% recovery rate. 80% of all cases are mild and, to date, more than 471,000 people across the globe have recovered.

Earlier today in North Carolina, state residents took to the streets in protest. The protesters exercised their constitutional right and called for the end of shutdowns. Since shutdowns have gone into effect, tens of millions of people have lost their jobs. This country cannot continue on this current path and remain the United States of America.

Sadly, one of the protesters who pushed back on the governor’s tyrannical lockdown was arrested. Such an arrest is definitively unconstitutional.

The Hierarchy of Law and Order

Police officers who arrested the North Carolina protester made the argument that such protests violate the governor’s orders to stay home. This is all well and good, but protesting is a critical constitutional right. The rights in the United States Constitution override mandates issued by governors.
