On Tuesday, President Donald Trump predicted that Republicans will fare well in the upcoming midterm elections, reports The Hill.

An Overview of President Trump's Prediction

During an interview with Hill.TV, the president cited the current state of the economy as a reason behind his prediction:

"I think we’re gonna do much better than anyone thinks because the economy is so good. People do like the job I’m doing."

Trump furthermore talked about his own political experience in the 2016 election. He noted his victory over well-known, established political figures:

"I beat the Bush dynasty, the Clinton dynasty, 17 people, I never left center stage once, you can check; I never left center stage, meaning I had the lead in Republican primaries from day one."

Towards the end of the interview, the president shared his thoughts regarding his accomplishments as the commander-in-chief and his views of the ongoing Russia investigation.

"I think I’ve done more than any president in history." He then noted the "tax cuts" and the nomination of Supreme Court Justices; many Republicans are hoping to see Brett Kavanaugh nominated.

Trump finally dismissed the Russia investigation as an "illegal witch hunt." The president and his associates have repeatedly denied accusations of colluding with Russia to win the 2016 election.

Republicans and Upcoming Midterm Elections

As midterm elections continue to approach, members of the Republican Party are hoping to maintain and even increase their power within the government. However, different individuals have various ideas and strategies which they believe the right-wing should adhere to.

In some settings, the GOP has faced advice to strictly focus on the economy and steer clear of controversial matters. One shining example of said controversy is the ongoing Russia investigation.

Republicans were also reminded of historical patterns regarding midterm elections; in many cases, the party which held government power during the time of the elections also lost the elections. This is largely why the GOP should not alienate potential, yet nontraditional Americans who may consider voting for Republican candidates.

Reminding Americans of the GOP tax reform benefits and the downsides of the economy under Obama are also strategies which were recommended to Republicans.

The midterm elections will commence on November 6, 2018.
