A series of violent incidents, culminating in a fatal shooting, erupted in Providence on Tuesday night.

The Providence Police Department was stretched thin as it responded to numerous calls, including the deadly shooting that saw 28-year-old Jerry Cardona lose his life.

 Investigating the Providence Shooting Scene on Dupont Drive

Major David Lapatin divulged that the grim scene unfolded on Dupont Drive, a quiet area off Niantic Avenue near Route 10.

As per the police chronicle shared with 12 News, officers rushed to the scene slightly past midnight on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, they discovered Cardona, grievously wounded with a gunshot to his chest.

Despite prompt efforts to transport him to Rhode Island Hospital, he was declared deceased shortly after.

Cardona's untimely death has cast a shadow over the shooting events.

 Chaotic Scene Witnesses Report Following the Shooting

Eyewitness accounts paint a chaotic picture at the time of the incident, depicting a scene of approximately 100 vehicles gathered in a parking lot.

Participants were indulging in festivities, setting off fireworks, listening to music, and consuming alcohol when panic ensued.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing "3-4 Hispanic males" fleeing the vicinity just prior to the Providence shooting.

In the ensuing commotion, everyone began to scramble towards their vehicles.

Amidst this pandemonium, they found Cardona lifeless beside his car.

Providence Shooting Spree Continues, Minor Girl Injured

Adding to the night's lawlessness, a 15-year-old girl fell victim to the Providence shooting spree.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at 42 Glenham Street, according to Providence Police Department.

 Investigations Reveal Crowd Presence at Glenham Street

The department shared that there was a large gathering, numbering in the hundreds, on Glenham Street.

An errant bullet found its way into a home, striking the teenager in her torso.

Thankfully, her injuries were determined non-life threatening.

While the night's disarray led to about 12 arrests, none were linked directly to the shootings.

As investigations into both the Providence shooting incidents continue, the city waits in anticipation for justice.
