Six employees were headed into work at Rapho Township’s public works building.

Before the tragedy struck, one of them detected the scent of gas upon entry, a vigilance that possibly prevented further calamity.

Promptly, emergency responders were alerted around 5:30 a.m. Unfortunately, the explosion erupted shortly thereafter, akin to a ticking time bomb going off.

Rapho Township’s Supervisor, Jere Swarr, grimly confirmed the loss of the structure, used as a storage site for five trucks, graders, and various other roadwork equipment – all annihilated in the Lancaster County building explosion.

Jeff Siegrist, assistant chief of the Mastersonville fire department, revealed that fire crews were still battling residual flames.
