According to Cornyn, the Florida governor is polling well and would qualify as “new blood” the Republican Party needs. The Texas lawmaker then acknowledged DeSantis’ massive reelection victory in Florida last year.
Wyoming Sen. Cynthia Lummis directly contradicted Trump’s narrative that DeSantis would be abandoning loyalty if he ran in 2024. In doing so, Lummis explained many candidates are expected to campaign in the upcoming presidential election, including those whom Trump endorsed and who worked for Trump during his administration.
Similar feedback arrived from Sens. Marco Rubio and Mike Rounds. Both Republicans stated anyone can run in 2024 and it’s actually healthy for the Republican Party to have a wide array of contenders to choose from.

If Trump insists on waging these unprovoked, petty attacks against DeSantis, he could very well see it backfire. As seen by the comments from Senate Republicans, many in the conservative movement like the Florida governor and are not against him running for president.
