Visitors and employees at Magic Mountain faced a tense situation Monday morning after authorities locked down the popular Southern California amusement park following reports of a bomb threat.

Deputies, armored law enforcement vehicles, and emergency crews flooded the area surrounding Six Flags Magic Mountain as officials conducted a large-scale sweep of the property.

Sheriff's Dept. Responds to Magic Mountain

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the Valencia-based theme park around 7:55 a.m. after receiving a threat call involving the property. Authorities immediately began securing entrances and searching the park grounds before the facility opened to the public.

The incident led to a temporary lockdown at the park, which is owned and operated by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Employees already inside the park were evacuated while law enforcement officers investigated the threat.

Officials also shut down the main entrance on Magic Mountain Parkway, along with employee access points near Sky View Lane and Feedmill Road. The closure caused traffic disruptions throughout the area as authorities worked to secure the perimeter.

California Highway Patrol Assists on Magic Mountain

The California Highway Patrol was called in to assist sheriff’s deputies with traffic control and security operations during the response. Television news footage from local outlets showed multiple sheriff’s vehicles stationed outside the amusement park, including what appeared to be an armored tactical vehicle and a fire engine.

“We are aware of the police activity at the park and are currently monitoring the situation in coordination with local authorities,” the theme park said in a statement released during the investigation.

The park, which normally opens at 10:30 a.m., remained closed well beyond its scheduled opening time Monday morning as deputies searched the sprawling property. Authorities later confirmed that the park had been “cleared and safe” shortly before noon.

Officials have not announced whether investigators found any suspicious packages or devices during the operation. No injuries were reported, and authorities later indicated that the threat did not appear to be credible.

According to reports, investigators believe there was only a single threat call made to authorities. Officials have not publicly identified the caller or disclosed additional details about the source of the alleged threat.

The company’s flagship California park is widely recognized as the “Thrill Capital of the World” because of its extensive collection of roller coasters and high-speed attractions.

Among the park’s most famous rides are Twisted Colossus, the 4D coaster X2, Goliath, Tatsu, and other adrenaline-focused attractions that regularly draw thousands of visitors each day.
