Suspect in the Lunar New Year mass shootings dies of self-inflicted gunshot

“The suspect walked in there, probably with the intent to kill more people,” Luna said. “But two community members disarmed him, took possession of his weapon, and the suspect ran away.”

The two men that disarmed the man turned over the weapon to the police. And the gun was identified as a semiautomatic assault pistol, which is magazine-fed. And it has an extended magazine attached. This firearm with the extended magazine is illegal to possess in California.

The suspect dies of a self-inflicted gunshot

On Sunday, at approximately 10:20 a.m. police located a white cargo van that was seen leaving the scene of the shooting.  When officers left their patrol vehicle to make contact with the occupant of the van, occupant, a gunshot rang out.

A SWAT team was called in. And they stormed the van at about 1 p.m. 

 The suspect found slumped over the steering wheel was pronounced dead at the scene. And it was determined that he had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The police also confirmed that the mass shooting suspect’s body was Mr. Tran.
