Taylor Swift Rumours

In an "opinion" piece published by The New York Times, journalist Anna Marks delved into speculations about the sexuality of Taylor Swift.

The article has gotten backlash from fans and the LGBT community. Swift's camp has now hit back at the article, calling it invasive and inappropriate under the guise of an opinion piece.

Taylor Swift Response

A source close to the Grammy-winning artist expressed frustration that the media lies.

Due to Swift's massive success, there seems to be a lack of ethical boundaries when it comes to discussing her personal life.

The source highlighted the double standard, questioning whether such an article would have been allowed if it were about a male artist, like Shawn Mendes, facing similar speculations.

The controversy surrounds Marks' claim that Swift embeds coded references about her sexuality in her work. She supposedly was "dropping hairpins" that were indications she was gay. Swifties and members of the LGBT community have criticized the article for its invasion of Swift's privacy.

Decoding Taylor Swift LGBT References

Marks pointed out various elements in Swift's art, suggesting queer undertones. This includes dance routines in her Eras Tour, which Marks interprets as a tribute to Loie Fuller, a lesbian choreographer.

Additionally, Swift's mention of The Ladder, an early lesbian publication in the U.S., is scrutinized in the piece. Marks asserts that Swift uses explicit sartorial choices, references to the bisexual pride flag, and recurring motifs like rainbow dresses. And these are coded messages to the queer community.

LGBT Supporter

Swift, 34, has been a vocal supporter of the LGBT movement but has consistently denied being gay or bisexual.

In a recent foreword to a new version of her album "1989," Swift addressed speculation about her sexuality, mentioning her decision to surround herself with female friends to curb speculation about her love life.

She expressed frustration that gossip about her private affairs continued.

In a 2019 Vogue interview, Swift emphasized her advocacy for the LGBT community despite not being a part of it. She described herself as a "straight ally," acknowledging the challenges faced by the community.

Fan Outrage

Fans took to social media to express their displeasure with the New York Times article. Some called it sexist and grossly inappropriate, leading to cancellations of subscriptions.

The public reaction emphasizes the sensitivity surrounding discussions about celebrities' private lives and the responsibility of media outlets in handling such topics.

Swift, currently in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, has had her share of public relationships.

This includes links to Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Styles, Calvin Harris, and Tom Hiddleston.

She was with actor Joe Alwyn for six years before splitting with him a year ago.
