In response to the Democrat governor’s plan, the UTLA released a statement. The teachers’ union alleges that “wealthier and healthier” Americans are somehow targeting teachers. After stating that the nation would react differently to COVID-19 if it were a “rich persons’ disease,” the UTLA lists its preferred guidelines for reopening.

These preferred guidelines entail the following: Los Angeles county leaving the purple tier column, a fully vaccinated staff, and “safety conditions” involving ventilation, personal protective equipment, etc.

Finally, the United Teachers of Los Angeles alleged that “white and wealthier and healthier” areas will be the greatest beneficiaries of Governor Newsom’s reopening plan. The left-wing teachers’ union also opined that funding of schools based upon their decision to reopen is a racist policy.

Growing controversy surrounding teachers’ unions

Amid the debates regarding school reopenings, teachers’ unions have come under fire. Many Americans simply just don’t believe the claims that these groups are making; meanwhile, others have reservations about teachers’ unions claiming that schools which remain closed shouldn’t lose funding.
